Geraldine Haines of Taylorville

Geraldine Haines,93, of Taylorville passed away Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Heritage Health Care Nursing Home, Pana, IL at 4:00pm.  She was born November 26, 1918 in Taylorville to Benjamin and Catherine Banning.  She married Cecil David Haines on December 28, 1940. He preceded her death in 1975.  She was a registered nurse; employed at St. Vincent Hospital in Taylorville, IL.  Mrs. Haines graduated as a registered nurse in 1940 from Huber Memorial Hospital in Pana.  She enjoyed her career as a registered nurse for 43 years.  She use her nursing skills in surgery and on the general floor.  Geraldine continued practicing as a registered nurse at the New St. Vincent Hospital.  In 1975 she was named the evening coordinator.  She joined the St. Vincent Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Board of Directors and was a coordinator of the Junior Auxiliary Program.  She was also involved in the Red Cross blood Bank and the school health programs.  She was a representative nurse at the annointing of the sick at St. Mary's Church.  She served as an extradordinary minister at St. Mary's Church for many years.  She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic  Church and the Catholic Daughters of America

Survived by sons: Robert (Cheryl) Haines and James (Sandra) Haines both of Taylorville, IL. Daughters: Cecilia Yonker and Barbara (Stephen) Waddell both of Taylorville, IL; Brother: Benjamin Banning of Pana, IL; Sisters: Rosemary Clayton of Sullivan, IN Teresa Purdeu of Chippewa Falls WI,  Margie Hines of Belleville, IL, and Ruth Kirkpatrick of Pana, IL; Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.  Preceded in death by her parents, husband: Cecil; Sons: Gerald Thomas Haines and John Patrick Haines; Brother: Jack Banning;  Sisters: Catherine Standley and  Joanne Murphy.

Visitation will be Monday March 5, 2012 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville, IL with a Wake Service at 5:00pm.  Funeral Mass will be held 12:00 noon, Tuesday March 6, 2012 at the St. MAry's Catholic Church in Taylorville, IL with Father Alan Hunter Officiating
