Joseph Marvin Armstrong, 81, of Herrin passed away at 7:45am on Monday, November 19, 2012 at Metropolis Nursing and Rehab Center.  He was born November 1, 1931 in Taylorville, the son of Joseph and Catherine (Bryles) Armstrong.  He married Mildred Clements in November, 1963 in Taylorville and she preceded him in death in June, 2005.  He was a coal miner, retiring from Freeman United #4; a member of the Herrin First Presbyterian Church and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. 

He is survived by his son Mike (Tricia) Armstrong of Paducah, KY.; daughter, Tammy (Tom) Clawson of Moberly, MO.; one granddaughter and one grandson; brother, Jack Armstrong of Taylorville; one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister and two brothers-in-law.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 23, 2012 at 10:00am in Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Michael Neubert officiating.  Graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville at 3:00pm on Friday, November 23, 2012.  Visitation will be held Friday, November 23, 2012 from 9-10am at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.
