Leland J. Sugar Summers of Jeisyville

Mr. Leland J. “Sugar” Summers, 86, of Jeisyville, IL, passed away at 5:21 pm Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL. 

He was born in Makanda, IL July 20, 1926 the son of Lester Leland and Edna Marie (Holmes) Summers. Sugar married Phyllis J. Summers August 28, 1967 in Taylorville, IL. She preceded him in death September 22, 2010.

 

Sugar attended Kincaid Church of God. He served in the U.S. Marines in the Pacific Theater during W.W.II. Sugar worked 42 years in area coalmines retiring in December 1989 from Peabody Mine #10 near Pawnee. Mr. Summers was a member of the Kincaid American Legion, and U.M.W.A. Local #9819. He loved hunting, fishing, working on cars, playing guitar and singing, and spending time with his family.

 

Surviving is a daughter Lynda (Steve) Sparling of Hewittville, IL 3 sons Ronnie Summers and Craig (Marilyn) Summers of Jeisyville, IL and Keith (Linda) Summers of CA one brother Jimmy (Audrey) Summers of Rochelle, IL, along with 9 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyllis in 2010, and 2 brothers Richard and Charles Summers.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, July 12, 2013 at Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid, IL. Pastor Michael Mayberry will officiate. Burial with military rites will follow in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Taylorville, IL. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm Thursday, July 11, 2013 in Masterson Funeral Home.
