Donald D. Dorr of Taylorville, IL died Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

He was born April 14, 1930 in Pana, IL Son of Lester and Ruth Dorr of Owaneco, IL. He served in the United Stated Army during the Korean War. On July 11, 1959 he married Laquita Joy Hake of Tovey. Don was a former farmer, State of Illinois highway worker, coal miner at Peabody Mine #10 and a Locust Township Trustee. He enjoyed fishing, going to auctions and collecting antiques and spending time with his dogs and volunteering many hours of his time to Red Bland Little League Baseball program, one of his fondest memories was being the opening day parade grand marshal. He was a member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kincaid, former officer of V.F.W. Post 4495, American Legion Post 73, officer of AMVETS Post 29, and Post AMVET of the year 2001-2002.

He is survived by Wife: Laquita Joy of Taylorville, IL; Daughter: Dena (Joe) Goeckner of Newberry, SC; Son: Joe (Gloria) Dorr of Pana, IL; Grandchildren: Lacey (JB) Head of Madison AL., Luke (Kimberly) Goeckner of Westminster, CO., Caleb Goeckner of Newberry, SC., Hannah Goeckner of Newberry, SC.; Brother: Herman (Wife) Margaret Dorr of Taylorville, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceeded in death by his Parents, Brothers Kenneth Dorr and Charles Dorr; Sisters Dorothy Hebert and Jean Kowen.

Wake will be held at 9:30 a.m. with visitation at 9:45 a.m., service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kincaid, IL with Father Allen Hunter officiating assisted by Father Dan Willenborg. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, IL. Sutton Memorial Home is in Charge of Arrangements.
