Steve “Spatchy” Sparling 66, of Hewittville, IL, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at his residence in Hewittville. He was born on April 12, 1947 in Taylorville, IL. The son of Alvin and Margie (Nance) Sparling. He married Lynda Summers on March 18, 1966 in Taylorville Steve was a social member of VFW Post #4495 in Taylorville and the Christian County Genealogical Society. He was an avid collector of marbles, die cast cars and baseball cards. He was a lifelong Dodger fan and loved to fish. Steve never met a stranger and was given the gift to make people laugh. He loved his Lord and family.

He survived by his wife, Lynda; son, Dennis (Laurie) Sparling of Taylorville; daughters, Michelle (companion Darryl Morgason) Hott of Taylorville, Mellissa (Tom) Zini of Taylorville and Miranda (Scott) Nagle of Taylorville; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Timothy (Deb) Sparling of Taylorville, sister, Debbie (John) Cline of Taylorville, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in passing by his parents, brother, Larry (Karen) Sparling; sisters, Sharon (Jim) White and Shelby Smith.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Jim Augenstein officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL Visitation will be held Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.
