Warren G. Tilton of Taylorville

Warren G. Tilton, 92, of Taylorville, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 8:15 p.m. at Meadow Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville. He was born April 21, 1921 in Blue Mound, IL. The Son of George and Izetta (Crutchfield) Tilton. He married Margie Ronchetto on April 24, 1942 and later married Fleta G. Hammonds on April 10, 1976 in Benton, IL. He retired as a coal miner from Peabody Coal Company. Mr. Tilton was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in the Pacific. Always known for his calm demeanor and steadfast work ethic, he was offered an officer training opportunity but chose to return to the Taylorville area where he worked in a variety of occupations, including construction and coal mining. He was a man who truly enjoyed working with his hands. Over the years, he took great pride in building three homes for his family. In his later years, he loved to “putter around the house” always on the lookout for something to fix or make work better. He also took great delight in “supervising” his grandson Lindsay’s efforts to take over the projects when his own hands became to arthritic to work. He was also a member of VFW Post #4495, American Legion Post #73.

He is survived by his Son: John “Jac” (Chris) Tilton of Dubuque, IA; Daughter: Yvonne Scott of Whittier, NC; Grandchildren: Doug Tilton of Dubuque, IA, Shannon (Dee) Wulf of East Troy, WI, Aaron Tilton of Berlin Germany, Alison (Todd) McArty of Belleville, IL, Kirsten (Peter) Bilan of Albuquerque, NM, Lindsay Funk of Darlington, PA, Mariella (Jon Byrd) Funk of St. Louis, MO; Thirteen Great-Grandchildren; Three Great-Great Grandchildren; Brother: Ronald Tilton of Kansas; Sisters: Eileen (Larry) Werner of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Both Wives, and Six Siblings.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Burial will be in Oak Hill in Taylorville.
