Charles Eldon Crowder of Tovey

 Mr. Charles Eldon Crowder, age 70, of Tovey, went to meet his maker, peacefully, with his family by his side at 7:50 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2013 in Taylorville Memorial Hospital at Taylorville, surrounded by family and friends.

 Chuck was born April 10, 1943, in Taylorville, the son of Charles E. and Dorothy Durbin Crowder.  He attended schools in Morrisonville and Kincaid.  He married Margaret C. Jones on June 20, 1965 in Taylorville. 

 He was the first police officer in Tovey and held that position for several years.  He then worked as a deputy sheriff at the Christian County Sheriff’s Office for 25 years, retiring in 2001.  After retiring from the sheriff’s office he was a part time police officer in Edinburg from 2007 to 2013.  Eldon was a member of the Taylorville Mound Lodge #122 A.F. & A.M., 9th Eastern District of Illinois.  He honorably served in the U.S. Air Force in the Vietnam War.

 Surviving are his wife Margaret of Tovey, IL daughter Tami (J.R.) Griffin of Taylorville, IL son Troy Crowder of Tovey, IL daughter Toni (John) Moore of Russellville, KY, 4 grandchildren Jacob Griffin, Taylorville, IL Justin (companion Jordan Bunch) Griffin of Taylorville, IL Brady Moore and Brandee Moore both of Kentucky, 4 sisters Elaine (Roger) Lederbrand, Terry (LeRoy) Harris, Diane (Keith) Morgan, Susan (Jeff) Baird, 3 brothers Dennis (Janet) Crowder, Randy (Megan) Crowder all of Taylorville, IL and Robert Crowder of Quincy, IL along with a great many nieces and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers Gary and Larry Crowder.

 Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, January 3, 2014 at Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid, IL.  Rev. Chad Foster will officiate.  Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery, North of Tovey, IL.  Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 Thursday night at Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid, with Masonic services being held at 7:00 PM conducted by Taylorville Masonic Lodge #122.   Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospitals.  Please visit his on-line obituary at www.mastersonfh.com
