Howard L. Stephens, 90, of Sharpsburg, IL passed away on January 1, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. at his residence. He was born on January 1, 1924 in Taylorville, IL; the son of Roland and Mrytle (Peters) Stephens. He married Clair Faye Neal on September 25, 1943 in St. Charles, MO; she preceded him in passing on October 29, 2012. Mr. Stephens was a veteran of the United States Army He was a retired farmer and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville, IL.

He is survived by his son, Danny R. (Marilyn) Stephens of Taylorville, IL; daughter, Bonnie L. (Lyman) Leach of Springfield, IL; grandchildren, Mark Stephens, Mike (Michelle) Stephens, Michelle (Dave) Cappellin, Kerri (Pat) Krell, Jenni (Josh) Sedlock and Clifford Linder; great-grandchildren, Katie Stephens, Kayla Stephens, Morgan Stephens, Garrett Stephens, Brittany Leach, Kent Girard and Carter Cappellin. He was preceded in passing by his parents, wife Clair; granddaughter-in-law, Christine Stephens; brothers, Delmar Stephens, Harold Stephens, and Dorice Stephens, sister, Wilma Craggs.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Private family graveside services will follow at Bethel Baptist Cemetery in Taylorville, IL with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating
