Loren E. Arkebauer of Taylorville

Loren E. Arkebauer, 82, of Taylorville, passed away on January 12, 2014 at 8:22 a.m. at Meadow Manor Skill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylorville, IL. He was born on May 15, 1931 in Palmer, IL; the son Edward and Mary (Moos) Arkebauer. He married Norvella Robinett on June 15, 1958 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvel, IL. He retired from the Bridgestone Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville, a life member of the Leslie-Reddick American Legion Post #721 in Morrisonville, IL and VFW Post #4495 in Taylorville. He also was a member of the Firestone Retirees. He loved being with the love of his life his wife Norvellla and their beautiful family. He also enjoyed all kinds of open wheel racing, especially attending the Indianapolis 500 for 50 consecutive years. He enjoyed taking trips to see the USA on his motorcycle, loved playing his saxophone and listening to beautiful music. He cherished the time spent with his Korean War buddies and fellow Firestone retirees. Most of all, he loved his Lord and Savior.

He is survived by his wife, Norvella; son, Rex (Nichole) Arkebauer of Greenview, IL; daughters: Brenda (Andy) Levin of DE, and Kim (Kevin)) Shute of FL; grandchildren: Joshua Shute, Aaron Shute, Katherine Roten, Jessica Pedrick, Brittney Arkebauer, Adam Arkebauer, Sarah Arkebauer and David Arkebauer; great grandchild, Victoria Roten; sisters, Viola Murphy of Nokomis, IL and Thelma Anderson of Auburn, IL; several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in passing by his parents.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville. Pastor Rodney Blomquist will officiate the services. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville with Military Honors accorded by VFW Post 4495, American Legion Post #73 and AMVETS Post #29.
