William D. “Bill” Croenne, 85, of Taylorville, IL died at 9:07 pm Sunday, November 16, 2014 at his residence.

He was born December 22, 1928 in Assumption, IL the son of Leon and Margaret E. Lewis Croenne. On July 1, 1950 he married Lila Lee Lidster at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Taylorville. Bill served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 4495, a past member of the Elks Lodge of Taylorville and was a founding member of the Taylorville Underwater Search and Recovery Team. He was an avid golfer and animal lover. He loved his family and friends and was well loved by everyone Bill liked to party and tell stories. Early in life Bill farmed and later sold cars for Trinity Motors and Bob Ridings in Taylorville.

He is survived by his wife, Lila Croenne of Taylorville; Son: Mark Croenne and wife Rise of Ramond; Daughters: Susie Briggs and husband Jerry of Taylorville and Shannon Croenne and husband John of Taylorville; Grandchildren: Bill Fishel, Kedra Schmedeke and John R. Blakeman; Great Grandchildren: Braxton Schmedeke, Brady Schmedeke, and Beckem Schmedeke. Preceding him in death were his parents, and brothers: Leon Croenne Jr, and August “Tuppie” Croenne.

Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 pm Wednesday at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm on Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
