Charles Gordon Brown of Pana

Charles “Gordon” Brown,  92, of rural Pana, IL, passed away on May 26, 2014 at 1:05 a.m. at his residence. He was born on December 10, 1921 in Taylorville, IL;  the son William and Blanche (Denning) Brown. Mr. Brown attended Centenary College in Shreveport, LA where he played basketball and football.  He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific Theater from 1942 until 1945. He married  Bernadine Kendle; she preceded him in passing in 1985. He then married Jo Ann Nelson on November 21. 1986 in Taylorville.  He was a retired farmer and County Zone Officer for Christian County. He was a member  of  Leslie-Reddick American Legion Post # 721  in Morrisonville for over 50 years as well as Taylorville VFW Post #4495 for over 65 years. Mr. Brown was a member of Morrisonville Lodge #681 A.F. & A.M. and the Ansar Shrine A.A.O.N.M.S. of Springfield, IL.


He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Brown of rural Pana, IL; sons: Charles G. (Cheryl) Brown of NC and Kendall L. (Nancy) Brown of NC; step-son: Kent A. (Jill) Bragg of Rochester, IL; step-daughter: Kelly L. (Gary) Brown of Taylorville, IL; thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren; special friend: Carson Wilhour. He was preceded in passing by his parents, first wife, Bernadine; brother: Dale Brown; sister: Kathryn Brown and nephew: Mike Brown.


Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Masonic Rites will be conducted at 8:00 p.m..
Funeral Services will be on Friday, May 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with officiates Sister Rose McKeown and John Nelson Chaplains. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville with Military Honors by  AMVETS Post #29, American Legion Post #73, VFW Post #4495 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral and Honors Detail.
