Jerry Lee Seymour of Mt. Auburn

Jerry Lee Seymour, 82, of Mt. Auburn, IL joined his Creator on October 2, 1014 at 5:49 pm with his family present. Jerry was born August 8, 1932 the son of Helen E. (Leonard) Seymour and S. Wayne Seymour. He graduated from Alton Senior High School, the Industrial College of Armed Services and he University of the Armed Services. Jerry retried from the U.S. Army as a Major after 25 years of service. He served in combat in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. During his military career he was awarded the Silver Star, four Bronze Stars, three Purple Hearts, and numerous other medals for outstanding service to his country. Jerry also retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Company at the Alton Plant. He was a Life Member of the American Legion, V.F.W., Korean War Veterans Association, and Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was appointed to the Board of Directors of numerous Veterans Organizations and also serviced as the Mayor of Mt. Clare and Mt. Auburn.

Surviving are his wife of over 30 years Carolyn F. (Moore) Seymour of Mt. Auburn, and their seven children: Helen E. Seymour (Michael Nicholson) of Gillespie, IL, Debbie Reagan (Kenny) of Cottage Hills, IL, Steve Seymour (Tracy) of Trenton, SC, Amy Fair (Mark) of Bethalto, IL, David Seymour (Sandra) of Bethalto, IL, Dana (Seymour) (Jim) Holland of Alton, IL, Phillip Seymour (Monica) of South Roxana, IL. Jerry is also survived by one sister, Judy (Seymour) Sawyer of East Alton, IL.

Jerry’s legacy lives on with his wife and in his children and 16 grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. And in one granddaughter he helped raise from birth, Nicole C. Seymour of Gillespie, IL. Nicole and her Papa enjoyed numerous activities together including building, welding, gardening, swimming, lunch dates at McDonalds, and many more. Jerry enjoyed fishing, golf, working and volunteering for Veteran’s Organizations, hand crafting many items and projects. Jerry was also an original member of the Branson Veteran’s Task Force. He loved his family deeply and the U.S. Army. Two of his children, Steve and Helen followed his footsteps into the Armed Forces. One Grandson, Gregory Seymour followed even closer becoming an Air Borne Ranger just as his Grandfather had been. Jerry never met a stranger in his life. He owed everything he learned to his Grandfather who raised him, as well as his family, friends, and the U.S. Army.

Please join the family in the celebration of life to which Jerry lived to the fullest each and every day. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the Mt. Auburn Church of Christ with Pastor Dan Armstrong and Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Burial with Military Honors by the Macon County Honor Guard will be held in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 6 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville. The Korean War Veterans Association will perform a pass in review in honor of our fallen hero.
