Virgil Leroy Moomey, 79, of Taylorville passed away at 4:43AM on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at his home. Virgil was born on March 20, 1936 in Millersville, the son of Harold and Olga Waters Moomey. He married Doris Jean Eckes on May 25, 1973 in Decatur. Mr. Moomey worked as a welder at Caterpillar in Decatur for 35 years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Virgil was an accomplished wood worker and enjoyed raising livestock for many years.

Virgil is survived by his wife: Doris Moomey of Taylorville; Children: Kevin Moomey, wife Susan, of Morrisonville, Kim Moomey of Divernon, Kris Jones, husband Paul, of Litchfield, Jeff Groves, wife Samantha, of Taylorville, and Dawn Campbell of Taylorville; 15 Grandchildren; 5 Great Grandchildren; Brothers: Duane Moomey, wife Faye, of Moberly MO, and Ron Moomey, wife Barb, of Owaneco; Sister: Janet Engeling, husband Charles, of Morrisonville. He was preceded in death by his parents; Brother: Kenneth Moomey; and 2 grandchildren

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, May 1, 2015 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Betty Coffey officiating. Visitation will be from 10 until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Owaneco Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Memorial Home Hospice.
