Ina Gertrude Shuler, 98, of Owaneco, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 3:54 a.m. at her home in Owaneco. She was born October 24, 1916 in Beecher City, IL, the Daughter of Burl H. and Birdie (Tipsword) McNeeley. She married George Cephus Shuler at the Owaneco Methodist Church in Owaneco, IL on August 12, 1940 and he preceded her in death on January 30, 2005. She was a member of Owaneco United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for over 30 years, HCEA Home Extension for over 50 years in the Buckeye Evening Unit. Ina attended Grade School at Pleasant Hill School of Beecher City, IL and graduated from St. Elmo High School in 1934. After graduation, she worked at Poor Farms of Owaneco, IL then at Charlie and Cora Morrell and later worked as a maid for two families in Decatur, IL. She attended Brown’s Business College in Decatur for one year then worked as book keeper at Semmel’s Clothing Store in Decatur. She lived together with her Husband George, as a farmer’s wife over 64 years in the home that he built.
She is survived by her Daughters: Judy Voss of Owaneco, IL; Jane (Bill) Everett of Owaneco, IL; Daughter-in-law: Jean Shuler of Owaneco, IL; Grandchildren: Angela (Steven) Fry of Pana, IL; Chad (Kelly) McLaughlin of Owaneco, IL; Nicole (Alan) Bailey of Owaneco, IL; Michael (Krissy) McLaughlin of Peoria, IL, Mandy (Dave) Boehler of Kincaid, IL and Benjamin (Stacia) Shuler of Pana, IL and step-granddaughter Dorinda Everett of Salem, IL; Fourteen Great-Grandchildren; Sister: Mary May Richards of Atlanta, GA; Brother-in-law: Earl (Libby) Cline of Chattanooga, TN; Sister-in-law: Gertrude White of Scotts Hill, TN; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. She was preceded in death her parents, Husband, Son: Burl, Brothers: Ralph McNeely, Harold McNeely and George McNeely, Sisters: Viola Richards, Miriam (Wilhour) Reeder.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Steve Switzer officiating. Burial will be in Owaneco Cemetery in Owaneco, IL. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.
