James Chuck Andrew Mayernick of Lincoln

James “Chuck” Andrew Mayernick , 86, of Lincoln, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 4:01 a.m. at his daughters home in Lincoln. He was born July 22, 1929 in Virden, IL, the Son of John and Anna (Gollick) Mayernick. He married Mary Dell Bucshon on December 22, 1951 in Kincaid, IL and she later preceded him in death on October 4, 1998. He was the Assistant Mine Manager at Peabody Mine #10. James was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville, IL, American Legion Post #905 in Kincaid, IL, United Mine Workers, and the Taylorville Knights of Columbus. He served his country during the Korean Conflict as a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps where he was a Chosin Reservoir survivor and received the Purple Heart.  He had played Baseball and Slow Pitch Softball for many area teams and he was heavily involved in Youth Baseball.  He was an avid bowler and loved his beloved St. Louis Cardinals.


He is survived by his Sons: Jim Mayernick of Springfield, IL and Joe (Brooke) Mayernick of Springfield, IL; Daughters: Mary Jo (Rick) Kennedy of Taylorville, IL, Anne Scott of Lincoln, IL, formerly of Pana, IL and Geri Mollohan of Lincoln, IL; Grandchildren: Rick (Ryne) Kennedy of Taylorville, IL, Daphne Kennedy of Taylorville, IL, Stephanie Kennedy of Scottsdale, AZ, Steve (Cheryl) Scott, Jr. of Effingham, IL, Michael (Sarah) Scott, serving in the US Navy in Newport, VA, Madison Mollohan of Clinton, IL, Casey Mollohan of Lincoln, IL, Morgan Mollohan of Lincoln, IL, Mercedes Mayernick of Lincoln, IL, Allison Mayernick of Lincoln, IL, Destiny Mayernick of Springfield, IL and Bella Mayernick of Springfield, IL; Great Grandchildren: Nick Kennedy, Bailey Kennedy, Peyton Kennedy and Kaden Kennedy all of Taylorville, IL; Brothers: Paul (Shirley) Mayernick of Philo, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 Brothers, 3 Sisters and his Grandson Patrick Mollohan


Funeral services will be held Monday, June 15, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Father Alan Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville with military graveside honors provided by VFW Post #4495, American Legion Post #73 and AMVETS Post #29. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 14, 2015 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.
