D. Gene Tirey, 84 of Taylorville passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born September 17, 1930 in Taylorville the son of Cecil W. and Lela M. (Price) Tirey. He married Gloria Ditterline in 1950 in Alton, IL and they later divorced. He then married Shirley Crevits in 1974 in Edine, MO. He spent 43 years working at Willey’s Farmers Co-Op Supply Company spending his last 23 years as a Manager and the last 6 years on the Board of Directors of the Illinois LP Association. He graduated from Taylorville High School and also Shurtleff College in Alton, IL. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association, Mound Lodge #122 AF&AM and the Springfield Ansar Shrine.
He is survived by his wife Shirley of Taylorville, IL; Daughters: Sally Tirey of Taylorville, IL, Becky Gilmore of Salem, IL; Step-Daughter: Bonnie (Mark) Agnew of Taylorville, IL; Eleven Grandchildren; Thirteen Great-Grandchildren; Brother: Donald (Alice) Tirey of Albuquerque, NM; Sister-in-Law: Beth (Robert) Clayton-Shanks of Taylorville, IL; Brother-in-Law: Phillip (Cheryl) Clayton of North Carolina and Three Nieces: Donna (Dean) Schachtner, Peggy (Tim) Holland and Michelle Tirey. He was preceded in death by his Parents and a Daughter: Karen Palmer.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Pastor Becky Lembke officiating. Inurnment will be in Old Stonington Cemetery in Stonington, IL. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville.
