Charles J. Surratt of Industry

Charles J. Surratt, 89, formerly of Palmer, Illinois, passed away at 12:37 a.m., Monday, October 5, 2015, at his home in Industry, Illinois. He was born May 29, 1926, in Sheldon’s Grove, IL, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Miller Surratt. He married Cecilia Stockton on March 28, 1952, in Lewiston, IL, and she preceded him in death on July 14, 2012. Charles served his country proudly in the US Navy for 4 years during WWII, then in the US Army for 8 years during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a Machinist for Caterpillar, in farming at his own service station in Morrisonville for 14 years, then at Wal-Mart in Taylorville. He was a member of the UAW, and the VFW Post #4495. Charles was a great husband, father, and provider, and he will be missed by everyone who had the chance to know him.

Charles is survived by five children: Diana DeLong of Macomb; Donna Willey, husband Steve, of Industry; Charles M. Surratt of Industry; Devonna Golsbey, husband Mike, of Camdenton, MO; Dawn Tarrant of Industry; sister: Eloise Carlock, husband Robert, of Gainsville, TX; brothers: Phillip Surratt of Sandwich; Bobby Joe Surratt of Aurora; Ernie Surratt, wife Donna, of Plano; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, nine brothers and sisters, and three grandchildren.

A memorial service for Charles will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 10, 2015, at McClure Funeral Home, Taylorville. Pastor Chad Foster will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Anderson Cemetery, with military honors. Memorials may be sent to: McDonough County Hospice, or the Morrisonville American Legion. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.
