James Wesley Pope, 80 of Taylorville passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 3:40 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born on June 21, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY the Son of Oliver and Delphia Mae (Humphrey) Pope. He married Linda Stephens on August 28, 1955 in Hernando, Mississippi.  He was a retired Mechanic for Growmark FS Inc. in Springfield, IL. He loved his family deeply and worked hard for them. He loved his motorcycle and going to races with his friends as long as he could. James was a charter member of the Edinburg E-Squares square dancing club, and a former member of the Edinburg American Legion and Edinburg Lions Club. He was a veteran in the U.S. Army. 

Surviving are his Wife: Linda Pope of Taylorville, IL; Sons: Eric Pope of Langleyville, IL; Lindy (Danielle) Pope of Canton, GA; Matt Pope of Kincaid, IL; Grandchildren: Kyle, Jayson and Maxx Pope, Magon Hallowell, Derek and Devinn Moss; Sisters: Ruthmary (Neal) Nichols of Edinburg, IL; Brothers: F. Dwight (Grace) Pope of Mechanicsburg, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Infant Son: Chad Arlie Pope, Mother and Father in law: Nick and Teddie Stephens, Sister-in-Law and Brother-in-Law: Betty Jean (Glen) Steele.

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 26, 2016 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Rev. Dan Spruell Officiating. Burial will be in Edinburg Cemetery in Edinburg, IL with military graveside honors.
