Billy Russel King

 

Billy Russell King, 92, of Taylorville passed away at 12:18am on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Life’s Journey Senior Living in Taylorville.  He was born on November 18, 1923 in Taylorville, the son of Samuel and Margretta Jones King.  Billy was an Army Veteran of World War II where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.  He graduated from Millikin University with a business degree and worked many years as a cook at King’s Café, and retired from Caterpillar after 27 years.  Billy owned and raised many quarter horses over the years, and was an avid Cubs fan, tap dancer, and trumpet player.  He was a member of Mound Lodge #122 A.F.& A.M. and the Ansar Shrine.  He was a beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews and will be remembered for his sense of humor and high moral standard. 

 

Billy is survived by his nieces and nephew: Gretta Siemers (William), Molly Alaria (Larry), and Sam Merriman all of Taylorville; great nieces and nephews: Russell Rahar, Rachel Rahar, Austin Alaria, and Lance Alaria; great-great niece: Elizabeth Rahar; and cousin: Wanda Peddie of Houston, Texas.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Robert King and his wife Nelva; and sister: Norma Merriman and her husband Derald.
