John Michael “Mike” Peabody, 64 of Taylorville, died peacefully in his home of natural causes on Monday June 20, 2016.

Mike was born on May 21, 1952 in Taylorville, the son of Roy and Edna “Frankie” (Elshoff) Peabody. Mike served his country proudly in the United States Army. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Sangamon State University, and went on to retire from the Federal Government in the Department of Child and Family Services as a caseworker. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church as well as the Knights of Columbus.

Mike is survived by his siblings: David (Peggy) Peabody of Aurora, IL; Dean (Pam) Peabody of Taylorville; Kevin (Sharon) Peabody of Taylorville; Nancy (Joe) Mateer of Stonington; Jeff (Betty) Peabody of Taylorville; Carolyn (Doug) Brown of Taylorville; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews who all adored him; and many cousins.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 24 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of mass in the church. Inurnment with Military Honors will take place at Old Stonington Cemetery. Memorials may be made in his honor to: St. Mary’s School, Taylorville, or the Smile Train.  McClure Funeral Home & Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
