Richard Wayne “Bear” Hughes, 67 of Taylorville passed away at 10:09A.M. on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.  He was born on June 13, 1949 in Taylorville, the son of Thomas J. and Beatrice M. Turpin Hughes.  Mr. Hughes proudly served his country during the Vietnam War with the United States Air Force.  He was a skilled mechanic and was passionate about working on cars and motorcycles.  Richard operated his own shop and was well known for his automotive repair skills.  He enjoyed traveling, karaoke, and spending time with his family. 

He is survived by his children: Shannon Hughes (Gustavo Navarro), Shawna Holsonback (John), and John Wayne Hughes all of Corpus Christi, Texas; grandchildren: Halle C. Navarro, Kayla Holsonback, and Dylan Hughes; Sisters: Gloria Bobbie (Gill) of Plattsburg, New York, and Laura King (David) of Kincaid.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Bobby Schmelzer, and grandson: Tyler Hughes.

A graveside service and inurnment with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Riverton.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is handling arrangements.  Memories of Richard or condolences to the family may be left online at www.mcclurefuneralhome.com.
