Marcella Ruth Pittenger

 

Marcella Ruth Pittenger, 96 of Taylorville passed away at 6:49 PM on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born on August 23, 1920 in May Township, Christian County,  the daughter of Orville and Flossie (Payne) Wareham. Marcella married Ivan C. Pittenger on May 21, 1941 in Yuma, Arizona. He preceeded her in death on March 25, 2003. Marcella was also preceded in death by her parents; Son: Daniel I. Pittenger; Sister: Erma Kevie; Brothers: Darrell Wareham and Fred Wareham.

 

Marcella was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville, Presbyterian Women and former deacon. She spent many hours working in her yard. She loved her dog Annie. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed bird watching and visiting on her porch. She loved Big Band Music. Marcella was present during the attack on Pearl Harbor while her husband Ivan was stationed in the Navy.

 

Survivors include: Daughter  Dolores J. “Dee” (Stephen) McLaughlin of Taylorville, IL; Brother Donald   (Bonnie) Wareham of Taylorville, IL; Daughter-in-law Judy Pittenger of Richfield, WI; Grandchildren: Tara (Jason) Kowalczyk of Gainesville, GA; Matthew (Lyndsey) McLaughlin of Morton, IL; Jarrod McLaughlin of Taylorville, IL; Danette Pahl (Thomas Miller) of Tucson, AZ; Erin (John) Edgington of Cobb, WI; Shannon (Robert) Oitker of Bloomington, IL; Vanessa (John) Clark of McHenry, IL; and Gareth (DeAnne) Pittenger of Slinger, WI; 18 Great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Taylorville with Rev. Michael Evanchak officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until time of service at the First Presbyterian Church.
