Hazel A. Augenstein

Hazel A. Augenstein, 83, of Taylorville passed away at 4:29 A.M. on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born on October 21, 1933 in Arthur, the daughter of John and Glyda (Kingery) Raymer. She married Don R. Augenstein on July 9, 1955 in Mattoon and he preceded her in death on December 13, 1982. Hazel was a homemaker and a member of the Taylorville Evangelical Free Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Moose Lodge in Mattoon, and previously worked as a door greeter at Walmart and Dixie Cream in Effingham. Hazel enjoyed crocheting and often made items to give to babies at St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham, where she was also part of the Auxillary. She also enjoyed making mints and volunteered as a ticket taker for Stewardson/Strasburg sporting events.

She is survived by her children: William Augenstein (Rebecca) of Mattoon, Rhonda Scothorne of Springfield, Jim “Augie” Augenstein (MariEtta) of Athens, and Veronica Howard (Nathan) of Taylorville; grandchildren: Tara Spraker (Rob), Jeffrey Augenstein, Sarah Fisher (Kenny), Jesse Cobble (Barbie), David Scothorne, Christopher Scothorne, Derrik Augenstein, Natalie Howard, Kimberly Howard, Drake Howard; brother: Herold Raymer (Ellen) of Neoga. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings: Jessie Cowick, Kenneth Raymer, Lorraine Wiltermood, Charles Raymer, Bertha Miller, Derral Raymer, Gerald Raymer, James Raymer, and Vicki Raymer; son-in-law: Richard Scothorne.

The family will host a memorial service at 11A.M. on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at the Taylorville Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Jim Wolfe officiating. Inurnment will be at 2pm on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the Stewardson Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Taylorville Evangelical Free Church.
