Elizabeth Allison Martin

 

Elizabeth Allison Martin, 97, of Taylorville, passed away at 6:44 p.m., Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born December 12, 1919, in Cleaton, Kentucky, the daughter of Harmon and Bertha (Sampson) Allison. During WWII, Elizabeth worked to support the war effort. She worked at Western Cartridge in Alton, Allis Chalmers in Springfield, and the Illiopolis munitions plant. She spent many years working for the State of Illinois in health services, running a halfway house in Peoria where she assisted many parolees and mentally disabled. Elizabeth was a skilled quilter and was well known for the dumplings she made.

She is survived by her sons: Jack (Helen) Martin of Arlington Heights, Donald (Cindy) Martin, of Springfield, and James Martin of Springfield; 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, including special caregivers: Linda (Tom) Bellegante of Taylorville. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: “Duke” Allison; sisters: Rita DeMartini and Wanda Danko; and grandchildren: Brad Martin and Lori Martin.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 25 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with the Rev. Tom Bellegante officiating. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of the service. Inurnment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the choice of the donor.
