Mary Elizabeth Heberling

Mary Elizabeth Heberling, 94, of Taylorville passed away at 2:59 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Taylorville Care Center. She was born on January 21, 1923 in Ricks Township, Christian County, the daughter of Walter Gabriel and Sarah Maude (Woodall) Hill. On September 21, 1946, she married Edward Andrew Heberling in Taylorville. Mary spend her entire life working along Ed’s side, in all aspects of farming, mainly south of Taylorville. Whether it was helping milk the herd of Guernsey cows or driving a truck for harvest, they worked as a team. She had a great love for cooking and gardening and made sure that anyone who helped on the farm was well-fed. Mary could handle a 12-inch cast iron skillet with no effort at all. Most of all she loved and adored all of her grandchildren. Mary and Ed enjoyed watching 3 generations of kids exhibit livestock at various fairs throughout the years and attended many a performance at Nashville North.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years: Ed; sons: Edwin Eugene “Gene” (Carol) Heberling of rural Taylorville, Robert Dale “Rob” (Kathy) Heberling of Taylorville, and Marion Lee “Punk”(Jodi) Heberling of Owaneco; 10 grandchildren: Holly Lomprez of Taylorville, Christopher (Amy) Heberling of Waynesville, Missouri, Andy Heberling (Jenny Pace) of Taylorville, Wendy (Shannon) Snow of Plainfield, Jennifer (Billie) Heberling of Taylorville, Eddie (Laura) Heberling of Blufton, South Carolina, Beth (Jeremy) Piatt of Taylorville, Robert Edward “Ward” Heberling of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mathew Heberling of Owaneco, and Amy Heberling of Owaneco; 17 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; sister-in-laws: Lois Hill and Anna Lou Yoho of Springfield and Grace Greffe of Taylorville; brother-in-laws: Jordan Heberling of Owaneco and Leroy Heberling of Taylorville. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Glen, Benjamin, Elmer, Paul, and Charles; sisters: Jessie Avis, Wilma Lamb, Alta Smith, Wanda Dodson, and Betty Benson; as well as grandson: Gabriel Alan Heberling and great granddaughter: Jessica Kettlekamp.

A visitation will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, April, 2, 2017 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home with Rev. James Jones and Sr. Rose McKeown officiating. Burial will take place at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville.
