Catherine A. Callan

 

Catherine Ann Callan, 64, of Stonington passed away at 7:20 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017 in her home. She was born on February 12, 1953 in Taylorville, the daughter of John James and Ada Jean (Garwood) Callan. Cathy graduated from Stonington High School and attended Lincoln Land Community College. She worked for the State of Illinois for many years and for over 30 years at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in several jobs, most recently as a lab runner. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church where she assisted with many activities. Cathy was very active with 4-H for many years and was known for the cookies and yeast rolls that she baked. She enjoyed sharing her faith by making rosaries. Cathy was a joy to all who knew her and her positive personality was a blessing to many.

 

She is survived by her mother: Ada Jean Callan of Stonington; brothers: Michael Callan (Marcia), Daniel Callan (Connie) both of Stonington, William Callan (Cyndi) of Springfield, Joseph Callan and Paul Callan (Stefani) both of Assumption, and Leo Callan of California; sisters: Mary VanGeison of Stonington, Patricia Striplin (Bob) of Taylorville, Ann Averette of Stonington, Susan Shivers (Kenny) of Taylorville, Rita Callan of Stonington, and Eileen Naughton (Frank) of Elk Grove Village; uncle: James Callan (Wilma) of Monett, Missouri; aunt: Mildred Garwood of Stonington; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father; niece: Kathryn Anderson; and nephew: Sam VanGeison; uncle: Robert Garwood; and sister-in-law: Linda Callan.

 

A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass on Tuesday in the church. A private family inurnment will take place in Old Stonington Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is handling arrangements.
