Richard T. Mormino, 85, of Taylorville passed away peacefully at his home at 8:39 A.M. on Saturday, September 30, 2017. He was born on August 7, 1932 in Hillsboro, the son of Mark and Gladys (Morrell) Mormino. He married Mary Whalen on April 12, 1957 in Springfield. Richard graduated from Hillsboro High School, Eastern Illinois University and received his Master’s Degree from the University of Illinois. He taught high school for 37 years in Witt, Morrisonville, and Taylorville. When he wasn’t teaching, he enjoyed working alongside his father at Mormino Wholesale Fruit and Produce in Hillsboro. Richard played football in high school and coached basketball for many years. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and a lifetime member of the Taylorville Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his wife: Mary Mormino of Taylorville; daughter: Angela (Dennis)Caraway of Crystal Lake, Illinois; grandsons: Joshua (Naomi) Caraway of Wisconsin and Michael (Mary) Caraway of Michigan; sister: Diane DeBeouf of Washington, Illinois; brother: Larry (Claudia) Mormino of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Mark Mormino; and sister: Gladys Hewitt.

Mr. Mormino will be cremated and a memorial mass will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 A.M. Wednesday in the church. Inurnment will take place at 2 P.M. on Wednesday at St Agnes Cemetery in Hillsboro with Fr. Dan Willenborg officiating.
