Jacob C. "Jay" Germann

Jacob C. “Jay” Germann, 70, of Taylorville passed away at 6:35 p.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2017, in his daughter’s home in Springfield. He was born on September 21, 1947 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Clifford and Betty (Willoughby) Germann. Jay worked many years as a coal miner at Peabody Mine #10. He was a member of the UMWA and enjoyed coin collecting.

 

He is survived by his son: Jay Germann (Amy) of Taylorville; daughter: Paula Phillips (Randy) of Springfield; grandchildren: Nathan Franklin (Emma), Shawn Franklin (Lacey), Hannah Dees (Alex), and Hope Germann (Adam Gilmore); step-grandchildren: Kaleigh Hamm and Tucker Hamm; great grandchildren: Sylas Franklin, Thomas Dees, and Bennox Franklin; sister: Anne Millburg of St. Louis, Missouri and Ellen Chambers of Edmond, Oklahoma; and brother: Jim Germann of Raymond. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Dorothy Meyers, and brothers: Donnie Germann and Charles “Butch” Germann.

 

Funeral Service for Jay will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 10, 2017 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Chad Foster officiating. Burial will take place in Anderson Cemetery in rural Palmer. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
