Dorothy Yattoni

Dorothy Josephine Yattoni, 92, of Stonington, died at 1:50 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2018 in Concordia Village, Springfield. Dorothy was born on a farm in East Fork Township, Montgomery County, on April 23, 1925, to August and Mary Elizabeth (Limper) Brown. She married Carson Ellis Benson on November 3, 1945, and he died on May 26, 1959. She then married Louie Yattoni on April 8, 1961, and he died on May 18, 1981.


Dorothy graduated from Coffeen High School. Following high school, she worked at Brown Shoe Factory in Litchfield. Dorothy was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington. She owned and operated several bars and restaurants in central Illinois, including the Blue Danube in Litchfield, West Side Tavern in Taylorville, and Sam & Louie’s Lounge in Stonington. She retired to help raise her grandchildren. The contributions which she made to her family were invaluable. Her legacy and love will live on in all our hearts forever.


Dorothy is survived by her children: Toni (John) Marucco of Springfield, William (Jennifer) Yattoni of Rochester; grandchildren: Kori (Pat) Aldrich, Gia (Nathan) Simmons, Charles (Katie Winn) Marucco, Hannah Yattoni, Austin Yattoni; great grandchildren: Aaron Aldrich, Grant and Adelyn Simmons, and Wes Benson Marucco. She is also survived by one brother, Wilbur Brown of Weldon, IL.


In addition to both of her husbands, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers: Leo, Leonard, Omar, Lawrence, and sister, Rita Crites.


Mass for Dorothy will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Stonington, with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until the time of mass, also at the church. Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to: the Holy Trinity Altar Society.
