Everett A. Hendricks

Everett A. Hendricks, 80 of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 2:43 p.m. at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was born on July 20, 1937 in Taylorville, IL the Son of Adam and Verda Stephens Hendricks. He graduated from Taylorville High School in 1956 and married Marilyn Joann Elam on April 5, 1957 at the 1st Baptist Church in Taylorville, where they were both members. Everett worked many jobs but started working at the foundation of the Kincaid power plant, Commonwealth Edison in 1967 as a janitor and retired from the plant after 27 years, as an A-man electrician in 1994. He loved his job and many great friends at Commonwealth. Over the years Everett was a member of the Jaycees, Masons and the Moose Club. One of the hobbies he had was collecting antique gas engines. He participated in Pablo Agricultural Museum, Christian County Historical Society and many parades throughout Christian County pulling a trailered display of these antique engines with his Minneapolis Moline Tractor. Another of his hobbies was bee keeping and selling honey to many, as well as raising field corn to sell as squirrel food. Everett liked to visit grade schools, senior citizen groups and Christian County Mental Health where he taught those attendees all about bee keeping and honey production. Everett was a lifelong hard-core Chicago Cubs baseball fan and was so fortunate to watch them winning the 2016 World Series. Everett’s greatest joy in life was buying and living on 10 acres of his grandfather Stephens, farm ground, where he raised his children and taught them and his grandchildren and great grandchildren many wonderful things on the farm.


Surviving are his daughters: Sharron (Denny) Taft and Tina (Lee) Pownall, both of Taylorville, as well as sweetheart and companion of 9 years Mary Amos; Grandchildren: Scott (Elizabeth) Brockelsby, Sandra Brockelsby, Robert (Amanda) Hancock, Jeffrey (Bailey) Hancock, Chad (Amy) Hancock, step-grandchildren: Regan (Danielle) Taft and Dr. Erin (Brendan) Grgurich. Great-grandchildren Reece, Ryan and Rhyten Brockelsby, Xavier and Quinn Hancock and Laila and Jace Hancock; step-great grandchildren at Kieran Taft and Aubree Grgurich. Sister: Elsie (Carl) Reed and sister-in-law: Wanda (Dennis) Sabin. He has many nieces and nephews he thought the world of as well as great nieces and nephews. Everett was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Marilyn (Elam) Hendricks, his son Stephen Everett Hendricks, parents Adam and Verda Hendricks, father and mother-in-law Charley and Irene Elam, Sister Brenda Swedick Credille, sister-in-law Kathy J. Smith and brother-in-law Tom Askelson.


Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 10:00 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL with Pastor James Baldwin officiating. Burial will be in Fraley Cemetery in Rural Taylorville, IL.
