Shirley Young, 83 of Taylorville passed away on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 2:08 a.m. at Taylorville Care Center in Taylorville, IL. She was born on April 30, 1935 in Morrisonville, IL the Daughter of Clyde G and Myrtle (McKee) Thacker. Shirley retired as a registered nurse after 52 years at St. Vincent Hospital in Taylorville and Memorial Medical Center in Springfield in OB and NICU. She was a member of Taylorville Christian Church in Taylorville. She married John Young on March 5, 1955 in Palmer, IL

She is survived by her husband: John Young of Taylorville; sons: David (Linda) Young of Fredericksburg, VA, Mark Young of Taylorville, and Scott (Jamie) Young of Taylorville; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brother: Dr. Robert (Margaret) Thacker of St. Petersburg, FL; sisters: Lorrie Nation of Taylorville, Sandra (Jim) Gibson of Taylorville; sister-in-law: Cleo Thacker of Taylorville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother: Richard Thacker; and sister: Donna Watkins

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at Taylorville Christian Church in Taylorville. Memorial service will follow the visitation starting at 3:00 p.m. at Taylorville Christian Church in Taylorville with pastor James Jones and pastor Dick Wamsley officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
