Muriel Constance "Connie" Carlyle

Muriel Constance “Connie” Carlyle, 91 of Bethany, passed away at 9a.m. on Monday, September 3, 2018 in her home. She was born on September 19, 1926 in Oswestry, England, the daughter of Richard E. and Mariam E. Davies. Connie was proud to be a “war bride”, having met her husband James while he was serving the United States during World War II in England. They married on July 21, 1945 in Oswestry, England. James E. Carlyle passed away on December 27, 1983.

 

Connie worked as a cook for 25 years in the Bethany Schools as well as other local restaurants. She was a very active member of the Bethany community serving on the town board, cleaning the post office, and helping with countless community meals. She was an active and dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church in Bethany for many years. Above all she loved her family and spending time with them.

 

Connie is survived by her children: Mary Beth Carlyle of Bethany, Jim Carlyle (Connie) of Taylorville, and Betty Jo Emel (Gary) of Sullivan; grandchildren: Brenda Robinson (Kevin) of Greenwood, Indiana, Brad Emel (Fayanne) of Sullivan, Sarah Melvin (Dave) of Sullivan, and Molli Carlyle of Taylorville; 7 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Clyde Carlyle, and 9 brothers and sisters.

 

A funeral service for Connie will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, September 8, 2018 in the Bethany United Methodist Church with Rev. Ted Hartley and Rev. Marge Overlot officiating. Visitation will be held from 10am until noon on Saturday in the church. Burial will take place in the Marrowbone Township Cemetery in Bethany.

 

Memorials may be left to the Bethany First United Methodist Church or the Marrowbone Township Library.
