Duane R. Swiney

Mr. Duane R. Swiney, 87, of Taylorville, IL., passed peacefully from this life at 8:20 a.m. Thursday, November 22, 2018 in Taylorville Care Center.
He was born in Assumption, IL., November 16, 1931 the son of Leo P. and Sylvia (Logsdon) Swiney.
Mr. Swiney served in the U. S. Army in the Artillery during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952.  When he got out of the military he came home and started farming.  In 1962 he quit farming and went to work; first briefly for Continental Grain, and then Wayne Feed Company for 40 years.  Duane loved horses and also his little dog Reggie who preceded him in death.  In his younger years he was a Team Roper performing at the Wheeler Hobbs arena.  Duane just celebrated his 87th birthday where the Veterans honored him with a Pinning Ceremony.  One of Mr. Swiney’s biggest delights was his recent trip on the Honor Flight.
Surviving are 4 sisters: Betty Heninger of Havre, MT., Helen Bricker, Janet Stephens and Kathy and her husband Robert Ricci all of Taylorville, IL., 2 brothers Leo “Bud” T. and his wife Kay Swiney of Owaneco, IL., and Paul and his wife Andi Swiney of Taylorville, IL., a sister-in-law Teresa Swiney of Taylorville, IL., along with several nieces and nephews.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Donald “Pete” Swiney and Marion Swiney, nephew Bobby Swiney, 3 brother-in-law’s George Heninger, Keith Bricker and Robert Stephens.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2018 at Masterson Funeral Home in Kincaid, IL.  Pastor Tami Werschey-Kessinger of Owaneco United Methodist Church will officiate.  Burial with Full Military Honors will follow the service in Assumption Cemetery.  Visitation for Mr. Duane R. Swiney will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 25 at Masterson Funeral Home, Kincaid, IL.
