Gary L. Jones

Gary L. Jones, 47 of Taylorville, died at 8:32 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2019 in his home with his family by his side. He was born on August 20, 1971 in Springfield, the son of Robert L. and Pamela S. (Cole) Jones. He graduated from Taylorville High School, class of 1989, and went on to serve in the Army and Army National Guard. He married Regina K. “Gina” Garren on July 2, 1993 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville. Gary worked for PPG in Mt. Zion before becoming a police officer for the city of Taylorville. As a firearms enthusiast, Gary was a gunsmith, member of the NRA, master firearms instructor, and a concealed-carry instructor. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Police Benevolent and Protective Association, as well as St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Gary is survived by his wife: Gina Jones; children: Logan Jones, Kaylee Jones, Tanner Jones, and Dylan Jones, all of Taylorville; parents: Robert & Pamela Jones of Morrisonville; father-in-law: Harry Garren of Taylorville; siblings: Stephanie (Kevin) Monahan of Pawnee, Kim Jones of Taylorville, Jacob (Heather) Jones of Kincaid; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Cledis & Rexine Jones, and Charles & Geneva Cole.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Msgr. David Lantz officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 – 8 p.m., also at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Memorials may be made in his honor to St. Mary’s School.
