Joan Rayona White-Somerfield, 96 of Taylorville passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 9:15 p.m. at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, IL. She was born on July 25, 1922 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Juluis and Helen (Rossel) Dase. She married Lloyd White in 1944. He preceded her in death in 1967. In 1988, she married Thomas Somerfield who also preceded her in death. Joan was employed at Taylorville Memorial Hospital for many years. After her retirement, she was active at the Christian County Branch of the University of Illinois Extension. Joan was a woman of deep faith, being a long-standing member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville.
She is survived by her three children: Fred White and his wife Janet in Lafayette, Colorado, Joyce Johnson and her husband Ric in Chaseburg, Wisconsin and Louise Kennedy in Taylorville. Joan was blessed with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered lovingly. The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff at Life’s Journey in Taylorville and to the staff at Taylorville Memorial Hospital for the care that they gave to Joan. 
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 18, 2019 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Taylorville. The funeral service will follow the visitation starting at 2:00 p.m. also at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Rodney Blomquist officiating. Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. in Concordia Cemetery in Hammond, IN.
