Dorothy Louise Mizer

Dorothy Louise Mizer, 97 of Taylorville, passed away at 9:35 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2019 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. She was born on March 21, 1922 in New Philadelphia, Ohio, the daughter of Russell and Helen Elizabeth (Ball) Hephinger. She married John Daniel Mizer on March 6, 1939 in West Virginia. John preceded her in death on March 2, 2006. Dorothy was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a talented seamstress, making all the clothing for her children while they were young as well as draperies and other items. She served as a room-mother for her children’s classes as well as a Den Leader for her son’s Cub Scout Pack. Dorothy was an avid Bridge player and was a member of 2 clubs for years, playing cards well into her 90s. She served as the first treasurer for the Christian County Senior Citizens. Dorothy lived her final years in the compassionate care of Marcy McKinnon. Their years together led to a special bond. Dorothy was able to maintain her life at home and enjoy her daily activities as a result of Marcy’s unwavering support.

She is survived by her children: Dr. Ronald E. Mizer (Gloria) of Taylorville, Sandra Lee Eckhoff (William) of Bath, New York, John Daniel Mizer Jr. (Lesley) of College Station, Texas, and Elizabeth Ann Goodwin (Michael) of Dwight; grandchildren: David Mizer, Dana Frey (Matt), Jamie D’Inginni (Vincente), Kristin Merry (Thomas), James Goodwin, Susan Goodwin, Marianne Goodwin, and Katherine Goodwin; and great grandchildren: Ethan Mizer, Abbey Mizer, Merrick D’Inginni, McKayla D’Inginni, Arianna D’Inginni, Ashleigh Merry, Isabella Merry, and Nicole Merry. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and infant son: Richard Dale Mizer.

The funeral service for Dorothy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2019 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Rev. Becky Lembke officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
