Mary Jo Dobyns

Mary Jo Dobyns, 84, of Taylorville passed away at 4:33 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.  She was born on May 17, 1935 in Searcy, Arkansas, the daughter of Floyd and Clister (Greer) Grissom.  She married Boyce E. Dobyns on February 21, 1953 in Arkansas, and he preceded her in death on September 20, 2000.  Mary attended Harding University where she and Boyce met.  They owned and operated S&W pest control in Taylorville for many years.  Mary was a long-time, active member of the Taylorville Christian Church where she served in many roles and was also involved in the founding of Vision Way Christian School.  Over the years she was active in many groups such as her bridge club and sorority group and she loved to read.  Mary and Boyce were avid boaters and enjoyed racing.  Traveling was a passion for the family, having traveled across the United States in their RV and being active in the Family Motor Coach Association.  Mary was a caregiver from the time she was very young, having assisted in raising of several family members including siblings, her children, and grandchildren.  

 

She is survived by her son: Joseph Dobyns (Danielle) of Edinburg; grandchildren: Chelsey Stout (Caleb Sitton) of Springfield, Jordan Stout of Cape Coral, Florida, Courtney Musgrove of Taylorville, Joey Lynn Dobyns and Elliott Elizabeth Dobyns both of Edinburg; great grandchild: Cayden Sitton; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter: Gina K Dobyns-Musgrove.

 

Mrs. Dobyns will be cremated, and the family will host a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at the Taylorville Christian Church with Pastors James Jones and Dick Wamsley officiating.  Inurnment will take place in the Honey Hill Cemetery in Searcy, Arkansas.  Memorials may be left to the Taylorville Christian Church.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memories of Mary, or condolences to the family, may be left online at www.mcclurefuneralhome.com.
