Waneta M. Durbin

Waneta M. Durbin, 91 of Springfield, passed away at 8:55p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.  She was born on April 29, 1928 in Taylorville, the daughter of Clifford and Helen (Stroud) Pearson.  She married Andrew “Bill” Durbin on November 23, 1946 in Taylorville and he preceded her in death on March 20, 1989. Waneta worked for the Illinois Secretary of State for over 25 years where she retired as a clerk.  She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Chatham.  Waneta enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, old westerns and solving word puzzles.  She loved taking photographs with her Polaroid camera and did so for many years until replacement film became unavailable.  More than anything she cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  


She is survived by her daughter: Ruby Durbin of Springfield; sister: Mabel McConnell of Taylorville; daughter-in-law: Trudy Durbin of Springfield; grandchildren: Chris Woodside (Candace) of St. Charles, Missouri, Aaron Broida (Carrie) of Springfield, Jason Broida (Kristie) of St. Peters, Missouri, Eric Broida (Ellen) of Litchfield, Ginny Anders (Shaun) of Springfield, and Cory Jobe of Atlanta, Georgia; great grandchildren: Summer Woodside, Christian Bradley, Cade Woodside, Samantha Woodside, Baylen Jobe, Atticus Anders, Archer Anders, Tinley Anders, Emily Broida, Jasmine Broida, Ashley Broida, Abby Broida, Julia Broida, and Gage Broida; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Gerald Durbin, 2 sisters and 1 brother.  


The funeral service for Waneta will be held at 11a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville with Fr. John Nolan officiating.  Burial will take place at Glenhaven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville.  Visitation will be held from 10a.m. until 11a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
