James T. Norris

James T. Norris, 90 of Taylorville passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 6:25 a.m. at his home in Taylorville, IL. He was born on May 12, 1929 in May Township in Illinois the son of Thomas and Anna Cecilia (Loreth) Norris. Jim never married but was blessed with a loving family and many friends. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a 60-year member of the VFW Post # 4495 in Taylorville. Jim was a graduate of Taylorville High School class of 1947. He served in the United States Army receiving the National Defense Service Metal, Army of Occupation Metal (Germany) and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a candidate for Christian County Sheriff in 1958. Jim was an antique & collectible dealer at Karla’s Collectibles “Dutch Mill” for nearly 25 years retiring from his loved hobby in his late 80’s. Jim was an avid Nascar fan and an avid Bingo player. Jim and his brother Joe could be found at Bingo halls several times a week. In later years Jim continued playing Bingo with his nieces and Nephews. Jim had an impeccable memory, was said to be able to add figures in his head faster than you could use a calculator. He kept up on current events and the markets right up to his passing.

 

He is survived by his brother: George (Evelyn) Norris of Taylorville, IL; nieces and nephews: Mary Crawford of Taylorville, IL; Robert (Laura) Oyler of Taylorville, IL; Anne (Garrett) Yocum of Geary, OK; David (Penny) Oyler of Baytown, TX; Teresa (Joe) Nolan of Taylorville, IL; Margaret (Charlie) Burgener of Taylorville, IL; Elizabeth (Brian) Hile of Taylorville, IL; Debbie Norris of Taylorville, IL; Susan (Steve) Curtin of Stonington, IL; Lisa (Steve) Falica of Taylorville, IL and several great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law: Helen (Bob) Oyler, brother: Joseph T. Norris, nephew: Greg E. Norris and great-great- niece Lia M. Bertolino.


Visitation will be held on Monday, July 29, 2019 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Taylorville. The Funeral Mass will follow the visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL with military graveside honors.
