Kenneth Ray Ostermeier

Kenneth Ray Ostermeier, 73, of Edinburg, IL, passed away at 1:05 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2019 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

 

Kenneth was born December 3, 1945 in Taylorville, IL, the son of William “Bill” and Corine (Dain) Ostermeier.  He married Millie Christopher at Trinity Lutheran Church in Edinburg, IL, and they had three sons together.

 

Kenneth graduated from Edinburg High School in 1963.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army, Big Red 1 Division during the Vietnam War, and received the Purple Heart and 2 Bronze Stars.  After his time in the service, Kenneth worked for over 20 years as a heavy equipment operator.  He was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Edinburg, and a member of the Operating Engineers Local 965 in Springfield, IL.  He will be remembered for his strong character, and thoughtful, caring, and big personality.  Kenneth enjoyed playing guitar, riding his Harley, and spending time outdoors at the river and lake.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Troy Allen Ostermeier; granddaughter, Jade Marie Ostermeier; and great granddaughter, Alexis Marie Ostermeier.

 

Kenneth is survived by his sons, Charles Shayne Ostermeier and Kristen Lance Ostermeier, both of Edinburg, IL; grandson, Brenden Luke Ostermeier of Edinburg; siblings, Dale Ostermeier of Edinburg, IL, Janet (husband, Nelson) Stubbs of Henry, IL, and Barbara (husband, Jim) Mudd of Wichita Falls, TX; the mother of his children, Millie Christopher of Edinburg, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Visitation: The family will receive guests from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley Funeral Home, 202 W. Franklin St., Taylorville, IL 62568.

 

Additional Visitation & Funeral Ceremony:  The family will receive guests from 11:00 a.m. until the time of ceremony at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 19, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 205 N. Campbell St., Edinburg, IL 62531, with Rev. Gaylord Spilker officiating.

 

Interment with military honors will follow at Grove City Cemetery in rural Edinburg, IL.
