John Albert Mills, 81 of Edinburg passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020 at 2:00 a.m. at his daughters’ home in Taylorville, IL. He was born on October 4, 1938 in Taylorville, IL the son of Albert and Lela (McCardle) Mills. He married Beverly Flahart on October 27, 1956 in Taylorville, IL. John Graduated from Taylorville High School in the Class of 1956. After graduation he worked at Peabody Mine #10 for 35 years and was on the Mine Rescue team for 14 of those years. John was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the Taylorville Moose Lodge # 1516.

He is survived by his Sons: Gary (Carol) Mills of Taylorville, IL, David Mills of Kansas City, MO; Daughters: Julie (Dave) Heberling of Taylorville, IL, Susan (Pete) Arttus of Madison, WI, Michelle Mills of Taylorville, IL; Grandchildren: Christine Hurtte, Jennifer Richardson, Pete Sanchez, Travis Heberling, Brandon Mills, Zachary Mills, Derek Arttus, Michael Sides, Megan Arttus, Amanda Trader; Several Great-Grandchildren; Sisters: JoAnn Kindermann, Joyce Smith, Ida Mae Phillips; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sisters: Vivian Tilton, Alberta Gronewald and Norma Mills.  

Visitation will be on March 17, 2020 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL. Funeral service will immediately follow the visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Bob Kindermann officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.
