Rocky Moore Sr.

Rocky Moore Sr., 71 of Taylorville, passed away at 10:14p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 in his home surrounded by his family.  He was born on October 9, 1948 in Springfield, the son of Robert I. and Edna L. (Merriman) Moore.  He married Sharon K. Fecho on March 6, 1970 in Springfield.  Rocky was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  In honor of his service to our country, he was presented the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, among others.  Rocky worked for the city of Taylorville for 39 years, serving as the Lake Superintendent for many years and retired as the Director of Public Works.  Following his retirement, he also served as a City Alderman.  Rocky was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed rides on his golf cart and motorcycle.  He loved working outside, especially mowing, and was always eager to lend a helping hand to a friend or neighbor.  During his retirement years he enjoyed the many hours spent drinking coffee with his friends at the Spring Garden restaurant.  He had a love for animals, especially his cats, and more than anything he was dedicated to his family, especially his grandchildren.  

 

He is survived by his wife: Sharon Moore; son: Brian Moore (Stacey Barlow); grandchildren: Brittany Moore (Ryan Crews) and Damon Moore (Mikayla Bell); and special friend: Davey Howell all of Taylorville; brothers: Bill Moore (Wilma) and Jim Moore; sisters: Leanna Tipsword and Carolyn Seymour all of Mt. Auburn; sisters-in-law: Joyce Jett of Taylorville Edith Moore of Mt. Auburn, and Lisa Fecho (Jerry Gull) of Wayne, Arkansas; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins including Buck Moore of Palmer.  Rocky was preceded in death by his parents; son: Rocky Moore Jr.; brothers: Robert Moore and Frank Moore; brothers-in-law: Jerry Seymour, Bob Tipsword, and Joe Fecho; and mother and father-in-law: John and Mildred Fecho.

 

Rocky will be cremated and a graveside service with veteran’s honors will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  Memorials may be made to the Christian County Animal Control.
