LaVerne Wilma Bertucci

LaVerne Wilma Bertucci, 91 of Taylorville, passed away at 7:10p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.  She was born on March 30, 1929 in Morrisonville, the daughter of William and Gladys (Goven) Durick. Following the passing of her parents, she was raised by Mr. & Mrs. D.E. Woodward.  She married Eugene “Sonny” Bertucci on August 28, 1949 at the Methodist Church in Taylorville.  LaVerne previously worked at Walker 5 &Dime, S.F. Spurling Insurance, and at Morton’s Drug Store.  She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she enjoyed being a part of many bible studies.  LaVerne was also a member of the Royal Neighbors, P.T.A., and was on the prom court in high school.  Sonny and LaVerne loved to dance throughout the years and could clear the dance floor while entertaining the crowd.  Together they enjoyed traveling to scenic and historic locations and attended countless fairs and festivals selling musical tins that they made through their business named Mom’s Follys.  LaVerne was a gifted artist and writer who loved many kinds of artwork, coloring, and penning and submitting poems.  


She is survived by her husband: Sonny Bertucci of Taylorville; children: Tom Bertucci (Sandy) of Nauvoo and Angela Bertucci of Peoria; grandchildren: Andrianna Bertucci (Donna), Joseph Bertucci (Kimberly), and Natalie Jamieson (Michael); great grandchildren: Caroline Bertucci, and Jaden, Olivia, and Ashlyn Hellman; sister: Mary Alice Fuller of Collinsville; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and adoptive parents and brothers: Bernard Woodward and Willard Woodward.


LaVerne will be cremated, and a family memorial service will be held at 11:00a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at McClure Funeral Home with Rev. Becky Lembke officiating.  Friends are invited to join the family for a graveside committal service at 11:30 on Tuesday at Oak Hill Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Taylorville First United Methodist Church.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memories of LaVerne, or condolences to the family, may be shared online at www.mcclurefuneralhome.com.
