Donald I. Dunkirk, 82 of Taylorville passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at 3:50 p.m. at his home in Taylorville, IL. He was born on September 20, 1937 in Morrisonville, IL the son of Earl Ash and Opal Mae (Wilbur) Dunkirk. He married Shirley Basil on February 16, 1957 in Kincaid, IL and she preceded him in death on September 25, 2018. Don worked as a coal miner at Peabody Mine #10, he was a member of the United Mine Workers and he was an avid Ham Radio Operator.
He is survived by his Sons: Mike (Renee) Dunkirk of Edinburg, IL; Jim (Terra) Dunkirk of Springfield, IL; Daughters: Debbie (Leonard) Gesell of Taylorville, IL; Lori Lederbrand and Fiancé Michael Trent of Oakley, IL; Grandchildren: Leanne (Todd) Unger of Pleasant Hill, IA; Brandon (Brittani) Dunkirk of Troy, IL; Cody Dunkrik of Pontoon Beach, IL; Larry (PJ) Dunkirk of Niantic, IL; Jessica (David) Durbin of Hinesville, Ga; Matthew Dunkirk of Edinburg, IL; Justin (Jen) Dunkirk of Sherman, IL; Kami (Bralynn) Benning of Springfield, IL; Austin Dunkirk of Springfield, IL; Kailey (Teresa) Correa of Glendale Heights, IL; Allison Lederbrand of Taylorville, IL; Gracie Lederbrand of Taylorville, IL; Great-Grandchildren: Marissa Dunkirk, Olivia Unger, Stanton Dunkirk, Aurora Benning, Zoe Dunkirk, Dava Cartee, Autumn Gordon, Laya Gordon; Brother: Gary (Mimi) Dunkirk of Taylorville, IL; Sisters: Shirley (Joe) Clark of Taylorville, IL; Ruth Canfield of Taylorville, IL; Judy McMillen of Springfield, IL, Linda Berriman of Taylorville, IL and Mary Ramey of Taylorville, IL; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his Parents, wife, Son: Donald E. Dunkirk, Brothers: Dennis Dunkirk and Larry Dunkirk.
Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Morrisonville Cemetery in Morrisonville, IL with Pastor Gerald McPhillips officiating.
