Travis Hunt

Travis Donald Hunt, 39 of Taylorville, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020 in his home.  He was born on July 26, 1981 in Taylorville, the son of Dennis D. and Kathleen M. (Murray) Hunt.  He married Melissa Kretzer on October 5, 2013 in Kincaid.  Travis attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, graduated from Taylorville High School, and attended Lincoln Land Community College.  He worked several jobs throughout his life including the Pawnee Food Center, Cowell Tree Service, Tullis Excavating and most recently Urban Rental Company.  Travis was known as a genuinely happy person who never knew a stranger.  He lived an active life, enjoying bowling, snow skiing, snowmobiling, riding his bike, playing cards, and even tried skydiving.  He loved to be outdoors, no matter if he was throwing bags or playing mud volleyball with his team the Cadillac Shirley’s.  For many years he co hosted the Hunt Mud Volleyball Tournament.  Travis was also artistic; he enjoyed painting and had a knack for turning junk into art.  He had a love for music; not only listening, but also playing.  He taught himself how to play the electric bass and enjoyed taking part in open-mic nights.  Traveling was another passion of Travis’s.  He spent time traveling all around the world including a backpacking trip through Europe.  Travis lived a life full of peace, love, and joy and will be dearly missed by his large family and countless friends.  
He is survived by his wife: Melissa Hunt of Taylorville; father: Dennis Hunt (companion Gloria McClard) of Stonington; siblings: Tom (Anita) Hunt of Taylorville, Kim (Frank) Herkert of Morrisonville, Tim (Kristin) Hunt of Taylorville, Tyler (Betsy) of Edinburg, Todd Hunt of Owaneco, and Kristin (Jeremy) Stanton of Taylorville; mother and father-in-law: Sue and Patrick Kretzer of Taylorville; brother-in-law: Eric (Nicole) Kretzer of Seattle, Washington; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his beloved Mastiff: Ringo .  He was preceded in death by his mother; grandparents: William and Mary Murray and Steven and Evelyn Hunt; aunt: Carolyn Brusca; uncles: Jim Murray, Bob Sinnard, and Don Hunt.  
A visitation for Travis will be held from 4p.m. until 7p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.  A service of remembrance will begin at 7p.m.  Due to the pandemic, only 50 visitors will be allowed in the building at a time and masks are encouraged as well as casual attire.  A private family graveside inurnment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  Memorials may be left to St. Mary’s Catholic School or the Dinner Seasoned with Love organization.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memories of Travis, or condolences to his family, may be shared online at www.mcclurefuneralhome.com.
