Lawrence J. Grant

Lawrence J. Grant, 77 of Owaneco, passed away at 2:38pm on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.  He was born on December 17, 1942, the son of Homer L. and Clara Faye (Ryan) Grant.  He married Carolyn S. Hemingway on December 7, 1969 in Stonington.  Larry was a life-long farmer.  He began his ag career by working for the Curtin family for many years at the Flat Branch Cattle Company.  He began farming on his own thanks to the support of the Evans and Moss family of Owaneco.  Larry and Carolyn started their farm operation from scratch in 1971 and in 1998 their son Pat joined them and most recently the 3rd generation with their grandchildren Conner and Chloe.  Larry was a lifetime member of the Taylorville FFA Alumni.  Larry graduated from Stonington High School.  He previously served in the Army National Guard and was a member of the Stonington American Legion.  He was a member of the Christian County Farm Bureau.  Aside from the farm, Larry’s family was the center of his life, especially his grandchildren.  He was a dedicated fan of VisionWay basketball and a proud grandpa.  He loved collecting antique tractors and farm toys and spent countless hours riding his Gator around the Owaneco countryside.  Larry will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

 
He is survived by his wife: Carolyn S. Grant; son: Patrick Grant (Michelle); and grandchildren: Conner Grant and Chloe Grant all of Owaneco; brother: Ronnie Grant (Terry) of Decatur; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Charles Grant; sister: Dorothy Roberts: and infant twin sisters.


The funeral service for Larry will be held at 10:00am on Friday, September 11, 2020 at McClure Funeral Home with Sr. Rose McKeown and Pastor Chad Foster officiating.  Burial will take place at Old Stonington Cemetery.  Visitation for Larry will be held from 4:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday at McClure Funeral Home.  Due to the pandemic, CDC guidelines will be followed, and the use of masks is strongly encouraged.  Memorials in Larry’s memory may be left to the Owaneco Fire Department or the Taylorville FFA.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memories of Larry, or condolences to his family, may be shared online at www.mcclurefuneralhom.com.
