Joseph George Schwab, 64 of Taylorville, passed away at 11:37am on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Northwestern University Hospital in Chicago.  He was born on July 28, 1956 in Taylorville, the son of Vincent J. and Jean E. (Johnson) Schwab.  Joe worked for 21 years at Georgia Pacific and most recently worked at GSI in Assumption.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Moose Lodge 1516.  He was a die-hard fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Notre Dame.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and especially loved his grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons: Vince Schwab (Andrea) and Adam Schwab (Wendy) both of Taylorville; grandchildren: Stella Schwab, Leah Doty, Shayna Schwab, Lily Schwab, Alexzia Schwab, Ryann Kinsey, and Rudy Schwab; brother: Mark Schwab (Autumn) of Ludington, Michigan.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Philip Schwab; sister: Barbara Lake; aunt: Norma Collebrusco; and uncle: George “Rusty” Johnson.
A visitation for Joe will take place from 4 until 7pm on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at McClure Funeral Home in Taylorville.  The funeral service will be at 10am on Friday at the funeral home with Monsignor David Lantz officiating.  Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville.  Health guidelines will be followed including social distancing, limiting the number of people in the building, and the use of masks.  Memorials in Joe’s memory may be left to St. Mary’s Catholic School.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memories of Joe, or condolences to his family, may be shared online at www.mcclurefuneralhome.com.
