Lloyd Sylvester Washburn

Lloyd Sylvester Washburn, 89 of Taylorville, passed away at 10:50am on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.  He was born on December 4, 1931 in rural Assumption, the son of Edward Zenith and Marge (Buzzard) Washburn.  He married Hilda Bea Blount on March 7, 1952 in Oxnard, California.  Lloyd graduated from Pana High School in 1949 and attended the University of Illinois.  He served his county during the Korean War as part of the U.S. Navy Seabees.  Lloyd was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pana.  He was a longtime farmer, working hard all his life raising crops and cattle.  He served on the Christian County Board for many years and was a member of the Morrisonville Masonic Lodge #681 A.F. & A.M.  


He is survived by his wife: Bea Washburn of Taylorville; children: Michael Washburn (Nora) of Rosamond, Debra Menn (Roger) of Ames, Nebraska, Ted Washburn of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Lloyd Washburn (Brenda) of Pana, and Mark Washburn of Taylorville; daughter-in-law: Rene Corso of Taylorville; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren; sisters: Shirley Barber (Fred) of Mascoutah, Penny Osborn of Pana, and Sarah Washburn of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Daniel Washburn; and sister Charry Fines.


Mr. Washburn will be cremated and a graveside memorial service with military honors will take place at 11:00am on Friday, January 8, 2021 at Rosemond Grove Cemetery with Rev. Nat Kealen officiating.  Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Pana.
