Wayne "Skip" Caldwell Jr.

Wayne F. “Skip” Caldwell Jr. of Springfield, IL passed away suddenly due to an accident in Vero Beach, FL on December 27, 2020. He was born in Marion, IL the son of Wayne F. Caldwell Sr. and Marian A. Wilson, Skip grew up in Taylorville, IL graduating with the class of 1959. His initiation into Decatur IBEW Local 143 was May 8, 1962. He later transferred to Springfield Local 193 working on many projects throughout the state and Springfield one of which was for several years at the IL State Fair. He last worked and retired from St. Johns Hospital in 2003. In earlier years he was an avid Taylorville/Springfield bowler. He enjoyed playing bridge, loved the old 50’s and 60’s songs and loved cars especially Corvettes. He customized 1950 Chevy & restored 2 corvettes. In the 60’s he partnered with David Walters to build a “B-Gas” Drag Race car winning trophies at Springfield drag strip.

He is survived by his sister Kay C. Swiney and husband Leo T. of Owaneco, IL and his nephew Lane W. Caldwell of Taylorville, IL. He was preceded in death his parents, grandparents, brother: Mark D. Caldwell and his fur baby, Queenie, whom he loved and missed.
Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, IL with Rev. Diwan Tiwade officiating please feel free to attend. Will have social distancing in place. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL
