Louie Farmer

Louie Farmer, 87 of Edinburg, passed away at 6:45pm on Friday, January 29, 2021 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.  He was born on April 2, 1933 in Harlan County, Kentucky, the son of Monte and Gertrude (Applegate) Farmer.  He married Polly Ann Deck on November 26, 1960 in Stonington and she preceded him in death on September 8, 1983.  Louie was a graduate of Edinburg High School in 1950 and proudly served his country in the U. S. Army.  He retired from Fiat Allis in Springfield.  Louie loved sports, especially football, Illini Basketball, and St. Louis Cardinals baseball.  Throughout the years he enjoyed bowling and throwing horseshoes.  He will be remembered by his family for the simple life he led.
He is survived by his children: Jackie Kendall (Don) of Edinburg, Karen Dulakis (Dennis) of Edinburg, Susan Squires (Coy) of Riverton, and Butch Farmer of Edinburg; son-in-law: Larry Vice of Riverton; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; stepmother: Carmon Farmer; daughter: Vicky Vice; great granddaughter: Gracelyn Lanham; and step-brother: Eddie Joe Jones.  
Mr. Farmer will be cremated, and a private family inurnment will be held at a later date in the Edinburg Cemetery.  To celebrate Louie’s love of watching sports, a pub-crawl at his favorite watering holes will be held in the coming months.  McClure Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Taylorville is assisting the family with arrangements.  Memories of Louie, or condolences to the family, may be shared online at www.mcclurefuneralhome.com.
